PSYCHOLOGY & PERFORMANCE

Creating characters with psychological depth.

Allan’s background in both psychotherapy and award-winning stage performance allows psychological theory and actor training to meet in a way that is unusual in either field.

The workshop helps actors move beyond surface choices and understand the psychological drives, relationships and internal conflicts that make a character believable.

Drawing on Stanislavski, Chekhov, Adler and Meisner alongside an understanding of human behaviour developed through clinical practice, the work focuses on finding truthful psychological motivation within performance.

01 Emotional memory and objective
02 Inner monologue and subtext
03 Tactics, obstacles and psychological drive
04 Grounding scenes in psychological realism

“Allan used his psychotherapy training and understanding of human behaviour to help us better connect with our characters in a unique way. Real, authentic, and incredibly engaging.”
